Do you know how energy efficient your home is?

You can easily make your home more energy efficient by applying appropriate measures and changes, without sacrificing comfort and everyday habits and needs. In addition to saving money, increased efficiency also has an impact on reducing pollution, better preserving of the environment and conserving resources.

  • If you use ordinary, incadescent bulbs, replace them with energy-saving ones – CFL bulbs or LED lighting. LED lamps save up to 90 percent of electricity for lighting, and they represent environmentally and energy efficient lighting.
  • Walls painted in lighter shades will reflect more light, so the need for additional lighting will be reduced, and you can achieve additional savings by creating the habit of turning off the lights in rooms when you’re not in them.
  • Check the insulation of the windows and doors, as well as walls, because in the case of poor insulation, significant losses of heat or cold occur, depending on the season. It is necessary that the facade walls have thermal insulation, the thickness of which is in accordance with the location and exposure of the building. It is necessary to check the thermal insulation of the floor, if it is on the ground or above unheated rooms, as well as the roof of the house; for an apartment in the building, the mezzanine construction is checked if the appartment is under an unheated attic, or the roof if it is on the top floor of the building.
  • When buying electrical appliances in the house, pay attention to the energy class of the device. Energy classes indicate the quality of work of home appliances. There are also smart devices that detect power consumption and turn off automatically when not in use. There are seven basic energy classes, A, B, C, D, E, F, G. The closer the class is to the letter A, the better the device is, ie. more efficient. In addition to the energy class of the device, pay attention to the annual electricity consumption, as well as the noise level. Although energy efficient devices are somewhat more expensive, the investment is completely justified, because the device pays for itself in a very short period of time through reduced monthly electricity bills.

A+, A++ marks indicate that the device is even more efficient than legally prescribed for category A.

The final assesment of the energy class of your home can be done by an expert with a certifiate for energy audits of buildings, and therefore define and propose the necessary measures and investments to achieve an energy efficient home.
